If America is truly moving towards an era of sustainability and environmentalism, it is important to look at both the beginning and the end. Green burial and grave recycling, among other newly emerging methods of disposition, are far more environmentally sustainable than casket burial. Practices such as green burial and grave recycling serve the American public’s growing preference for greener goods while also providing more intimate and financially affordable methods of disposition. However, significant legal, economic, and cultural barriers will need to be overcome in order to make them viable within the United States.
